Key details
Anthropic is taking decisive steps to deepen its presence in India, which has emerged as its second-largest market after the United States. According to Guillaume Princen, Global Head of Startups at Anthropic, India accounts for about 7.2% of Claude's total usage globally, with
nearly half of Indian users engaging the AI assistant Claude for developer-centric tasks such as UI design, code debugging, and software development—significantly above the global average of around 30% (IDs: 96315, 96317, 96318).
Highlighting India's importance, Princen noted that 33% of all Claude Code conversations originate from Indian startups, underlining the country's growing influence in AI development and entrepreneurship. Responding to this momentum, Anthropic plans to open its first dedicated office in Bengaluru by early 2026 to enhance local support for startups, engineers, and enterprises leveraging Claude. This new hub will be Anthropic's second location in the Asia Pacific region after Tokyo and marks a strategic investment in India’s thriving tech ecosystem (IDs: 96317, 96323).
The company is also broadening API credits, optimizing rate limits, and collaborating with local partners like Accel to better serve developers. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei will engage with Indian stakeholders soon to foster partnerships, particularly in sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture, aiming to make Claude accessible in regional languages and support responsible AI innovation (ID: 96318).
This expansion occurs amid growing competition in India’s AI space, with OpenAI also establishing a New Delhi office and rivals like Google Gemini and Perplexity entering the market. Anthropic's plans to triple its international workforce reflect its commitment to supporting a global user base while nurturing India's rapidly developing AI ecosystem (ID: 96323).
