  • • Grok requires Premium Connectivity and AMD Ryzen processors; older Intel Atom vehicles are unsupported.

  • • Grok interactions are anonymous, and future updates will enhance vehicle integration.

Tesla has officially rolled out its conversational AI assistant, Grok, to Canadian Tesla owners via the 2025.38 software update, following its U.S. launch in July 2023 with version 2025.26. This release allows Canadian drivers to engage with Grok, which focuses on natural conversation, humor, and general knowledge assistance. However, Grok is currently limited to vehicles equipped with AMD Ryzen processors (HW3 or HW4) and Premium Connectivity or an active Wi-Fi connection, excluding older Intel Atom-based Teslas. According to Tesla North and Drive Tesla Canada, Grok can be accessed either through the App Launcher or by pressing the voice button on the steering wheel, and users can select from various personality modes, including Storyteller and Unhinged.

Grok itself acknowledges its delayed Canadian rollout, attributing it to regulatory hurdles related to Canada’s Artificial Intelligence and Data Act (AIDA), under Bill C-27. xAI, Tesla's AI developer, has taken an anticipatory approach to compliance, aiming to meet transparency and safety standards stipulated by impending legislation. All user interactions with Grok are processed anonymously without linking to driver or vehicle data.

Future updates promise deeper integration of Grok within Tesla’s ecosystem, enabling it to manage navigation, vehicle settings, and entertainment functions, expanding beyond its current conversational capabilities. Elon Musk has also indicated the forthcoming introduction of a dedicated wake word to activate Grok, enhancing ease of use.
