A significant security vulnerability in AI code generation tools has been exposed through a newly identified attack called LegalPwn. Researchers from Pangea Labs revealed that this cyberattack exploits flaws in generative AI models, such as Google's Gemini CLI and GitHub Copilot, tricking them into misclassifying malware as safe code by embedding harmful instructions within misleading legal disclaimers. After testing twelve AI models, it was found that most were susceptible, with human analysts outperforming AI in identifying the malicious code, emphasizing the ongoing need for human oversight in AI security practices.

In light of these vulnerabilities, Apiiro has introduced the AutoFix AI Agent, a tool aimed at automatically addressing design and code risks directly within integrated development environments (IDEs) without the need for plugins. This initiative responds to reports indicating that 50% of AI-generated code contains security vulnerabilities, with 10% being significantly exploitable. Moti Gindi, Apiiro's Chief Product Officer, highlighted the agent's role in empowering developers to rectify risks in real-time by generating threat models from the outset and ensuring security compliance.
