Google has officially launched its innovative Gemini AI technology across its popular smart home product lines, including upgraded Nest cameras, doorbells, and a new Google Home Speaker. This move aims to enhance user interaction and home automation capabilities significantly, as announced on October 1, 2025.
The Gemini AI integration introduces features that enable natural conversations, allowing users to interact with their devices without needing to specify names or commands. Called 'Gemini Live', users can activate this feature by saying, 'Hey Google, let's chat', making it particularly effective for tasks like brainstorming or homework help. According to HotHardware, Gemini can interpret context and understand complex commands, such as recognizing that a user in the kitchen wants the kitchen lights on when they say, "turn on the lights so I can cook dinner."
In terms of hardware, the new Nest cameras boast upgraded 2K HDR video resolution, expanding their field of view from 130 to 152 degrees for indoor/outdoor models, and enhancing night vision capabilities with infrared LEDs. The Nest Doorbell now sports a 166° field of view and can send alerts with descriptions and video clips, reflecting a doubling of event video history from 3 to 6 hours. Pricing has been set at $100 for the Nest Cam Indoor, $150 for the Outdoor model, and $180 for the Doorbell, with availability in select markets.
Moreover, a next-generation Google Home Speaker will debut in Spring 2026, priced at $99. This speaker features 360-degree audio and is designed to work seamlessly with existing Google Nest products and integrates with Google TV for an enhanced home theater experience. Notably, it will also incorporate a physical mute button for addressing privacy concerns. According to GSMArena, the speaker will initially offer its Gemini Live feature exclusively to Google Home Premium subscribers, which requires a subscription of $10 per month, while discounts are available for Google AI Pro users.
As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance smart home technology, Google has partnered with Walmart to offer onn-branded cameras compatible with Gemini at lower prices, broadening consumer access to its AI-powered smart home features.
