Google's Gemini AI Gains Traction Amid Legal Scrutiny Over Service Bundling

Google's Gemini AI is emerging as a compelling alternative to ChatGPT, showcasing advanced multimodal capabilities and seamless integration with Google services. Since its launch, Gemini has seen a 46% increase in visits since August 2025, reflecting growing user adoption. Unlike ChatGPT, which primarily relies on a vast database, Gemini taps into Google’s extensive knowledge base, providing real-time information and natively understanding diverse file types such as PDFs and images. It supports image and audio analysis, voice interaction through Gemini Live, and direct image generation using its internal Nano Banana model, expanding its usability beyond text-based interactions. The polished user interface and ability to execute complex tasks efficiently across Google apps positions Gemini favorably despite currently lacking some ecosystem features offered by ChatGPT. However, Google is concurrently facing legal challenges regarding its desire to bundle the Gemini AI app with flagship products like Maps and YouTube. At a recent court hearing, Google attorney John Schmidtlein argued there is no evidence Google holds monopoly power in AI, countering the U.S. Justice Department’s proposal to restrict such bundling practices. Google maintains that neither Maps nor YouTube qualify as monopoly services, defending its competitive strategy in the AI sector.
