Google has unveiled a new wave of Nest smart home devices powered by its Gemini AI, marking a significant shift in the smart home ecosystem. The latest lineup includes indoor and outdoor Nest Cams priced at $100 and $150 respectively, a Nest Doorbell at $180, and a Google Home Speaker slated for spring 2026 release. These devices now feature enhanced specifications such as 2K video resolution, HDR recording, and wide-angle views—with the Nest Cam capturing a 152-degree perspective and the Doorbell offering 166-degree diagonal coverage (86126).

Central to this update is Gemini for Home, which replaces the traditional Google Assistant on all smart devices and introduces a revamped Google Home app. The new app includes tabs for Home, Activity, and Automations, alongside a conversational “Ask Home” feature designed to streamline user interactions. Enhanced capabilities under Gemini Live require a subscription, with Google offering a $20-per-month or $200 annually Advanced plan granting full access, while a $10 monthly plan provides limited features like 30-day event history and intelligent alerts (86126).

The Gemini for Home rollout began with an Early Access program for select users in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. Google plans to expand availability to countries including Japan, Switzerland, and various European markets soon. The US rollout for Google Home Premium subscribers is scheduled to start October 28, 2023, with broader access expected by early 2026. Notably, Gemini compatibility extends to all Nest cameras and doorbells made since 2015, as well as new devices from Walmart, and support for third-party speakers is underway. Existing subscribers to Google AI Pro and Google Home Premium must activate new benefits separately to use these features (86122).

These developments showcase Google’s efforts to elevate smart home experiences through AI, challenging competitors like Amazon by integrating Gemini’s conversational and contextual intelligence deep into the Nest product line and the Google Home ecosystem.
