A recent study published in *PLOS One* by the Neuro-Com Research Group at the Autonomous University of Barcelona shows that AI-generated music triggers stronger emotional reactions compared to music composed by humans. The research involved 88 participants who viewed videos with either human-composed music or AI-generated music created under varying complexities of prompts.
The physiological responses of participants were closely monitored, measuring pupil dilation, blinking, and skin conductivity during the viewing experience. The findings indicated that AI-generated music, especially when derived from complex prompts, resulted in notably greater pupil dilation, signifying heightened emotional arousal. Participants described the AI-generated tunes as more exciting, while they considered human compositions as more familiar.
Nikolaj Fišer, the first author of the study, commented on the significance of these results, stating that men's physiological reactions to AI music surpassed those to human music. He emphasized that while AI music produces impactful emotional experiences, processing this music might involve different cognitive demands than those for human-created sounds. This study has vital implications for audiovisual production, suggesting that AI-generated music could play a crucial role in enhancing emotional storytelling in media.
