Google's AI Mode receives significant enhancements, introducing business-calling capabilities and revamped history management features.
Key Points
- • Introduction of AI-powered business-calling feature for local inquiries.
- • Users can manage search history more effectively with new Activity tab.
- • AI Mode equipped with Gemini 2.5 Pro for better reasoning and coding capabilities.
- • Plans for sharing AI Mode conversations via links to improve user collaboration.
Google has made significant advancements in its AI Mode, integrating powerful features from its Gemini project, particularly through the introduction of an AI-powered business calling feature. Launched on July 18, 2025, this feature allows users in the U.S. to request information about local businesses via phone calls handled entirely by AI. Users can search for services, such as ‘pet groomers near me,’ and instruct the AI to check pricing and availability without having to make the calls themselves.
The AI identifies itself as an automated system during calls, addressing prior concerns regarding ethical transparency in AI communications. The feature is available to all users of Google Search, with enhanced functionalities offered to subscribers of AI Pro and AI Ultra, which include upgraded capabilities with the Gemini 2.5 Pro model. This model enhances reasoning, math, and coding performance, enabling users to access more advanced functions conveniently.
In addition, Google has upgraded its AI Mode interface based on insights from an APK teardown of the Google app. Users can expect a revamped search history management system, where the AI Mode history may be merged with standard search history under an Activity tab. The new design will highlight only the three most recent searches, with options to access older inquiries through a dedicated page. There are plans for an accessible sidebar for AI Mode, facilitating smoother navigation of conversation histories and chat deletions without exiting ongoing searches.
Moreover, a feature called ‘Manage Public Links’ might soon allow for the sharing of AI Mode conversations via links or exports to Google services like Gmail or Google Docs, enhancing collaboration and information management. These updates indicate Google's commitment to improving user experience and competing effectively with services like Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT Search.
As these new features are rolled out, users can look forward to a more integrated and efficient interaction with Google's AI capabilities, making it easier to conduct research and manage communications in the digital age.
