As Gilbert Public Schools prepares to start the 2025 academic year on July 22, significant strides are being made towards the integration of artificial intelligence in education. A key component of this initiative is a pilot program at Campo Verde High School, which will allow students access to the MagicSchool AI software. Previously, this tool was exclusively available to Advanced Placement (AP) Research and AP Capstone students.
Joe Castelhano, the district's chief technology officer, highlighted the crucial collaboration between the IT and curriculum departments to ensure that AI strategies align with educational objectives. As part of these efforts, the district established a tech advisory committee over a year ago to explore viable AI tools and draft teacher guidelines for responsible use. These guidelines have gained approval from the governing board, reflecting a strong commitment to preparing educators for AI integration.
The initiative includes not only the MagicSchool platform but also access for AP research students to the Google Gemini platform, which promises enhanced research capabilities while upholding safety and privacy standards.
