On July 31, 2025, Congressman Gabe Evans and Deputy Secretary of Labor Keith Sonderling visited the campus to witness the integration of AI technology into student training programs.
During the visit, Sonderling emphasized the importance of observing hands-on workforce training, stating, "It is really important for me to get out and see real workforce development training happening in real time," showcasing the college’s commitment to modern job preparedness.
Engagement with AI is notable at Aims, with reports indicating that 80-90% of students use AI tools daily, reflecting a significant shift in educational methodologies. According to one student, the technology is beneficial: "It is a really nice tool, it makes everything a lot quicker," underlining positive student feedback on the technology’s role in education.
Aims Community College offers various programs, including welding, drone operation, and commercial driving, all of which leverage AI to enhance learning and skill acquisition. Sonderling pointed out that AI is positioned to assist rather than replace workers, asserting, "This technology is meant to help students and eventual workers understand their jobs and do their jobs better in a more safe and efficient environment."
The college is not only focused on incorporating AI into specific training but is also dedicated to fostering AI literacy among its students. Aims staff highlighted the importance of distinguishing between being literate and being competent with AI, ensuring all courses integrate AI elements to prepare students effectively for the workforce. Congressman Evans remarked on the pivotal role of community colleges, stating, "You are building that workforce with modern cutting-edge technology to be able to drive us into the middle of the 21st century." With these initiatives, Aims Community College is setting a benchmark in integrating AI within educational frameworks, aimed at equipping students for the evolving job landscape.
