AIB has launched an extensive deployment of Microsoft Copilot AI tools for its entire workforce of 10,000 employees, marking a significant stride in adopting AI within the organization. This initiative, developed in collaboration with Microsoft Ireland, strategically integrates Copilot's capabilities into essential workplace applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint, aimed at enhancing productivity and collaboration.
The integration is designed specifically to optimize key processes such as forecasting and planning, as well as to enhance teamwork by synchronizing project updates and diminishing the time spent on repetitive administrative tasks. AIB's AI Centre of Excellence is leading this initiative, having already rolled out advanced tools that help teams synthesize customer information from complex datasets, allowing for more informed decision-making.
Additionally, AIB is set to introduce GitHub Copilot, a sophisticated AI coding assistant, to bolster software development practices. This tool aids engineers by generating code suggestions and completions based on both natural language prompts and existing code, thus streamlining the coding process.
Recent research from Microsoft and Trinity College Dublin indicates that the overall AI adoption rate in Ireland has surged to an impressive 91%, significantly up from 49% in 2024. The economic impact of AI is projected to be substantial, with estimates suggesting a contribution of around €250 billion to the Irish economy by 2035. AIB's Chief Technology Officer, Graham Fagan, underscored the importance of this rollout, stating, 'We’ve been exploring AI’s potential with our employees through collaboration and testing, and now we’re scaling it across the organization to deliver smarter, faster, and more meaningful outcomes for our customers and our people.'
